We don´t talk about technology today, or yes?

Last Saturday, women team of GeoSLab (Mª José, Silvia y Susana) attended Women Techmakers Zaragoza.

Women Techmakers is a global program promoted by Google that provides visibility, community, and resources for women in technology.

Several events have taken place in different Spanish cities (Barcelona, Madrid, Salamanca, etc.) but that of Zaragoza have exceeded all expectations: more than 90 proposals for presentations, 250 attendees, sold-out of tickets…

Marvellous organization (congratulations for all the people working on it!) and very interesting presentations. It was really difficult to choose!

Last Saturday event was about technology from different perspectives but the common sense was that it´s absolutely necessary to increase the women working on tech.

In this sense, the activity developed by AMIT-Aragón during more than 10 years with the objective of bringing technology closer to girls in Aragón is admirable and essential. We knew more about it thanks to María Villaroya.

We also enjoyed very much the presentation of Valeria Corrales (@valeriacch7), a 9 years old girl that wants to transmit all the girls her scientific curiosity showing them how funny technology can be.

We founded delightful the presentation of Mayte Ortín (@MayteOrtin) who talked about how women must use and take advantage of their particular talent for direction and management of teams in technological environment. Very remarkable the conviction and motivation transmitted by Lucía Sánchez (@lsanchezpozo), only 17 years old, that explained how it is possible to learn everything using youtube if you are focused and don´t hesitate in asking for help when necessary.

As most of speakers said, women must “believe we can do whatever we wish”, even in technological world.

We want to reiterate our congratulations to team in charge of organization and thank speakers for sharing their experiences. We truly hope Women Techmakers Zaragoza to become a yearly first level event in our city.
